Dr. K.T. Iraivan; a Sri Lankan medical practitioner with a remarkable career record that includes sound experience in the government, private as well as international healthcare sectors in both clinical and administration spheres for more than decade. He is one of the few medical doctors in Sri Lanka possessing Postgraduate Qualification in Hospital Administration as well as Business Administration.
Hailing from one of the oldest and prestigious schools in the country, of St. John’s College Jaffna; Dr. Iraivan continued his medical education in India at Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute, affiliated to Harvard Medical School in the USA. Subsequently he continued his career at the Medical School as a special trainee in Nephrology and Renal Transplant Surgery and was awarded the prestigious International Society of Peritoneal Dialysis Scholarship followed by an extended training in Manchester Royal Infirmary in the UK.
Since his return to Sri Lanka in the year 2002, he underwent Postgraduate Programs in Hospital Administration from Apollo Hospitals Med Varsity, and Family Medicine from Royal College of General Practitioners in the UK. He obtained Masters degree in Business Administration from Bucks New University in UK. Currently, he is involved in Post Graduate Studies in Health Development from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo, and quality management from Sri Lanka Standards Institute. He was also the official Physician to UN Secretary General Mr. Coffi Annan during his visit to Sri Lanka in the year 2005. Dr. Iraivan is also a life member of Sri Lanka Medical Association and College of Medical administrators of Sri Lanka.
In the year 2007, he was appointed as the Assistant General Manager and Head of Operations of Lanka Hospitals PLC and was involved in administration and general management of the hospital in diverse areas. His core strengths are healthcare Business development, strategy formulation, Quality accreditations and Hospital administration. After he took over as the Deputy Director Medical administration in year 2013, he continued the responsibilities of his previous position in addition to the medical administrative functions and led the team to achieve the prestigious and highest Quality standard, Joint Commission Accreditation (JCIA) to the hospital. In addition, he was involved in obtaining ISO 14001 and 22000 to the hospital. He is a firm believer of quality initiatives and total quality management and continues to embrace this in all activities.
He joined Browns Group of Companies as Chief Executive Officer of Browns Healthcare and Hospitals in year 2015 where he took the initiative to turn around the healthcare business into a profit-making venture. Dr. Iraivan during his tenure at Browns Hospitals initiated and obtained ISO 9001-2015 certification from Sri Lanka Standard Institute (SLSI) to the Hospital. He managed to turn around the business of the existing hospital through diverse strategic decisions including acquiring another healthcare entity with the vision of expanding the business in the country.
Currently he is the Chief Executive officer of Hospitals projects of Melsta Health (Pvt) Ltd, a fully owned subsidiary of the blue chip, Melstacorp PLC. He is also a Director Hospital management Melsta (Pvt) Ltd and Melsta Healthcare Colombo (Pvt) Ltd, managing Joseph Frazer Hospital ,Colombo.
In addition to his Medical and Administrative profession, Dr. K. T. Iraivan is a visiting lecturer for both Undergraduate and Master’s streams of hospital facility management at the Department of Building Economics, University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka. He is also a lecturer for Postgraduate Diploma in Healthcare Quality and Patients Safety at Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo-Srilanka. He delivers public lectures in Health Management and Healthy Living Tools to various Corporate entities. He offers services as a Consultant for hospital strategy development, planning and designing, staff recruitment. His main areas of interests are Hospital facility management, management of healthcare organizations ,green field hospital projects and refurbishment.
